Road Trip!

Road Trip to San Diego!

Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego, CA.

For my California Road Trip, I decided to take a trip over to San Diego and visit and get to know the Hotel Del Coronado. This beautiful and famous hotel has a very interesting history and continues to blow people away with it's beauty and magnificence. I was surprised to hear how many famous people have stayed at this Hotel and how much they loved it!

For this trip, I decided to go with my mom. It gave us an opportunity to go out and have girl time, learn more about the Coronado Hotel, and also get to know the area of San Diego. For both of us, it was our first time on this area of San Diego. I learned so much and had the most fun I have had in a while!

As my mom and I were on our way there, driving through I5 (the longest road ever), we figured we would  read about where we were going and learn a little history behind this hotel. At one point we stopped at Harris Ranch and had lunch. This is where we read on our phones a little about the hotel. I discovered that this was a classy hotel that people with 'status' tend to stay. Anyone is able to stay there, but the number of well-known people that stayed there amazed me. Here is a list of some people and celebrities that have stayed in the Hotel Del Coronado in the past: 11 presidents (including Obama), King Edward VIII, Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth, Charlie Chaplin, Brad Pitt, Madonna...etc. It was really cool knowing I was walking the same beach along the hotel as King Edward VIII did!

The Meal my mom and I ate at our stop in Harris ranch as we discussed the history behind the Hotel.

After we stopped for lunch, we were well back on our way to the San Diego area.
When we got to San Diego we first did a little shopping and visited La Jolla and saw the beautiful cove. Then after touring the area, we hit the Hotel Del Coronado. When you walk up the first thing you see are huge trees and the lovely colors of the hotel building. When I walked inside I was almost speechless, it was amazing! It was very lovely in style and there were so many people enjoying themselves. There are high ceilings and fancy chandeliers.
The stop we made to La Jolla before we got to the Hotel Del Coronado. La Jolla's Beautiful Cove.

This is what I saw when I walked up to the front entrance to the hotel:
Entrance (front) to the Hotel Del Coronado.

After I went inside the doors, this is what my eyes were drawn to:
Main Room Chandelier and Bouquet.

Next, I went inside and took a sneak peek of the dining area of the hotel. It is so big!
Hotel Del Coronado Crown Room.

As I was talking to the receptionist at the Concierge, she told me some very interesting historical facts and she gave me some pamphlets. I learned that it first opened in 1888. When it opened, it was the largest resort in the world! Construction started in 1887 then finished the following year. Thousands of people came to visit and stay at this hotel and Prince Edward of Wales was honored with a grand banquet at this hotel in the Crown Room. (When I was there, I could just picture that scene taking place.)
Also, this hotel was known for housing many pilots during WWII. They left it off limits to be taken over because the amount of families staying there. But eventually, there was a "victory garden" program started there. Many vegetables and plants were planted in respect to those men.
So not only is this Hotel known for it's spectacular guests, but also the fact that it was involved in the second world war. This is a hotel that will probably be respected, admired, and visited by many to come. I really enjoyed this road trip and I hope to visit again when I go to school down in that area!

This is the first outdoor lit Christmas tree in the entire world, in front of the Hotel!

The view from behind the hotel. I was standing along the Coronado Beach taking these pictures!

And this would be the gorgeous beach:
